With the participation of molecular biology experts, the National Liver Institute in Menoufia inaugurates the “Beyond the Microscope” workshop as part of its annual integrated conference activities.
The Department of Clinical and Molecular Parasitology organized a high-level training workshop entitled “Beyond the Microscope: The Molecular Aspect of Parasitology,” held at the department’s headquarters in the institute’s old building. This comes ضمن the intensive scientific activities of the National Liver Institute’s Integrated Conference at Menoufia University (NLICC 2026).
The event began with a welcoming speech by Dr. Osama Sharaf, Head of the Department and workshop organizer, who emphasized the role of the workshop in bridging the gap between traditional microscopic diagnosis and modern molecular techniques. The program featured rich scientific content, starting with a lecture by Dr. Marwa Gouda, Assistant Professor at the department, on the applications of molecular biology in parasitology research, followed by a detailed explanation of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique presented by Dr. Shaimaa Abdel Meguid Farag.
The workshop was not limited to theoretical aspects; participants engaged in a comprehensive hands-on experience under the supervision of Dr. Shaimaa Abdel Meguid and Dr. Yomna Hegazy. This included DNA extraction from samples and result analysis using Gel Electrophoresis, allowing trainees to accurately simulate workflows used in international laboratories.
On the sidelines of the workshop, Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute at Menoufia University, stated: “This workshop represents one of the key pillars of this year’s integrated conference activities. We aim to empower researchers with modern molecular diagnostic tools. The National Liver Institute not only strives to provide medical services but also reinforces its position as a leading center for training and research. Integrating such practical activities within the conference reflects our vision of delivering comprehensive scientific content that combines academic theory with direct clinical application.”
The workshop concluded with an open discussion session addressing researchers’ questions, followed by the distribution of certificates of completion and commemorative photos, marking the end of a distinguished scientific day added to the achievements of this year’s integrated conference.
