Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, announced the issuance of Prime Ministerial Decision No. 2862 of 2024 to establish the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University to be added to the university's faculties and institutes, extending his sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, on the occasion of the issuance of this decision, which is an important step in the path of development witnessed by the university, university hospitals, and the medical sector at the university.

Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University and Professor of Oncology Surgery, expressed his happiness with the official issuance of this decision to fulfill a long-awaited dream of improving the medical service provided to cancer patients in the Lower Egypt governorates, adding that since he assumed the presidency of the university, he has been striving to develop university hospitals, which are one of the most important pillars for providing treatment services to citizens from Menoufia Governorate and neighboring governorates. He explained that establishing the Oncology Institute was a primary goal for developing medical and research services and stemmed from his responsibility as a doctor specializing in the treatment and surgery of tumors. Now it has become a tangible reality that Menoufia University has a specialized institute that provides advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services and full support to patients, and also contributes to supporting directed scientific research in this field. Dr. Ahmed El-Kased pointed out that with the increasing number of visitors to the Oncology Hospital, he sought to establish the Oncology Institute with the help of loyal members of the university and the governorate, until all efforts were crowned with the issuance of a decision by the Prime Minister to approve the establishment of the institute as a research and therapeutic institute, with a hospital attached to it for the treatment of tumors, to be the first stage of the establishment of the medical city, the biggest dream that is being worked on to achieve, stressing that this important step was achieved in light of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to expand the establishment of specialized medical centers and develop university hospitals, and in implementation of Egypt's Vision 2030 to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

The university president explained that the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University, which is an academic institute, will provide an educational research service, in addition to an integrated hospital to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to cancer patients, and will also provide an educational role in the prevention and early detection of tumors.

It is proposed that the institute include six departments that work in integration to serve and treat cancer patients, namely the Oncology Department, the Oncology Surgery Department, the Leukemia Department, the Nuclear Medicine Department, the Medical Statistics and Scientific Research Department, and the Oncology Biology Department.

He stressed that establishing the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University is a strategic step towards improving specialized healthcare and developing scientific research in the field of oncology, especially since the goal of establishing the institute is to increase the bed capacity with a capacity of (400) internal beds, (40) intensive care beds, (40) intermediate care beds, (6) oncology surgery operating rooms and 100 chairs to receive chemotherapy doses and 4 radiotherapy stations, in order to accommodate the largest number of patients from the governorate and neighboring governorates. The medical services provided within the Oncology Institute at the university will be provided with the latest devices and modern technologies in the treatment of tumors, in addition to granting master's and doctoral degrees in advanced tumor treatment and surgery and nuclear medicine.

The university president thanked all supporters of the establishment of this medical edifice, headed by the governor of Menoufia, members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and everyone who contributed to achieving this important step, which is a glimmer of hope in the journey of treating cancer patients.
