Prof. Ahmed Farag El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, announced the success of a specialized surgical team at the National Liver Institute in saving the life of a female patient who arrived at the emergency department in a critical condition following a severe accident that caused major liver injuries and life-threatening internal bleeding.

The University President stated that the emergency department received the case in a state of severe physiological instability. Immediate CT scans and laboratory investigations revealed extensive liver rupture accompanied by internal bleeding and a large hematoma. Test results also showed a sharp drop in hemoglobin levels to 6 g/dL, indicating a highly critical condition. This required urgent intervention and the transfusion of three units of blood before and during the surgical procedure to compensate for blood loss.

He added that the patient was rapidly transferred to the operating room, where she underwent a delicate surgical procedure. The surgical team successfully controlled the source of liver bleeding and removed the accumulated blood clots while maintaining stable vital functions until the operation was completed successfully. The patient was then transferred safely to post-operative care and recovery.

Prof. El-Kased praised the efficiency of the medical team and their rapid, professional response from the moment the case was received, emphasizing that this achievement reflects the advanced level reached by Menoufia University Hospitals and their ability to handle the most critical and complex emergency cases according to the highest medical standards.

He affirmed that the National Liver Institute is one of Egypt’s leading medical and therapeutic institutions, thanks to its highly qualified medical staff, advanced equipment, and state-of-the-art operating rooms. He noted that the University places great emphasis on supporting the healthcare sector and developing medical services provided to patients, enhancing the role of university hospitals in delivering comprehensive and safe healthcare.

He further added that the successful management of such a severe case in record time reflects the spirit of teamwork and integration among different medical specialties within the Institute, extending his appreciation to all members of the medical and nursing teams involved in the operation.

For his part, Prof. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute, praised the efforts of the medical team and the high level of coordination between the emergency, radiology, blood bank, and operating room departments. He confirmed that the Institute continues to fulfill its medical and humanitarian mission by receiving critical cases and providing urgent specialized care around the clock, noting that it is equipped with the latest technologies for managing complex liver injuries and trauma cases through teamwork and dedication.

In the same context, Dr. Islam Ayoub, General Director of the National Liver Institute Hospital and leader of the surgical team, explained that upon receiving the case, the maximum emergency protocol was immediately activated. He confirmed that the successful control of such massive bleeding in a patient suffering from severe shock reflects the precision of surgical performance, the advanced capabilities of the Institute, and its constant readiness to provide the highest level of medical care under the most challenging circumstances.

The medical team included Dr. Islam Ayoub, Dr. Mostafa El-Kallal, and Dr. Ahmed Tamer, along with a team comprising Dr. Mahmoud Sami, Dr. Mohamed Hassan, Dr. Karim, and Dr. Sondos, supported by a highly efficient nursing team including Ismail Mohamed and Amr Mohamed.
